PT 109 Torpedo Boat

PT109, dimensions 240mm X 98mm X 74mm, and powered by one of the largest steam engines, size 92mm X 48mm ever fitted in recent times to a Pop-Pop boat
Complete with fuel holder, candles, wick holder and priming dropper.
We have tried various fuels with these boats and solid fuel tablets* seem to be about the best. The candles supplied are fine, but due to the size of the boiler, they take about 2 minutes to steam up and use most of one candle. Once going, they are very noisy and great fun.
* (Solid fuel tablets are available from most camping stores).
These boats are ideal if you want to experiment with different fuels, as the boilers are large enough to take a lot of heat. (Disclaimer - heat, open flame, adult use, common sense etc).
Please do not use petrol or any other highly flammable substances and ensure a high level of safety when demonstrating to children.
We have also tried fire lighters (solid white blocks). Very smokey and not recommended for indoor use. Great results though.

PT 109 - The History
PT boats were known as Patrol Torpedo Boats. They were also known as mosquito boats. Three engines, each powered them generating a total of 5500 horsepower. They were armed to teeth with two twin 50 caliber machine gun plus 30 caliber machine gun, a 20 millimeter anti-aircraft gun with a 37 millimeter cannon plus four torpedoes and a hoard of depth charges, a smoke screen generator, guns and rifles along with 40 millimeter gun at the rear deck. PT109 had its most celebrated crew in Mr. J.F.Kennedy who went on to become President of U.S.A.
